Ministry:
As a young sailor, Pastor Ulysse answered the call to ministry and was baptized in Jesus' name at Christian Fellowship Church's Waukegan location. Upon his honorable discharge from active service in 1993, he was ordained as a pastor returned to his home in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, with his faithful wife and helpmate, Lilline. He began to share the gospel with his friends and family, and reached out into the community. A church began to grow in his home. Soon, his home was no longer large enough for the gatherings and it became necessary to obtain a rented building for use as a sanctuary and fellowship center.
In 1995, Pastor Ulysse was sent as a missionary of Christian Fellowship Church to begin a work in the nation of Haiti. He turned the reigns of the leadership of the Fort Lauderdale congregation to his assistant pastor and moved his family to Haiti. The church in Haiti began under a porch, and under Pastor Ulysse's guidance has grown into eight main churches and 20 fellowship groups across the country totaling over 2,500 members today. In support of this work, there are now 10 pastors, and a number of deacons and department heads to provide leadership and facilitate the work. As the church in Haiti grew, the need for a school grew as well. In Haiti, there is not a comprehensive educational system as exists in the United States. Often, the only way to obtain an education is through private schools. Through Pastor Ulysse's vision, passion, and dedication an accredited Christian school was established in 2001 which has had up to 700 students in attendance. The establishment of the school brought with it additional expenses for a principal, professional teachers, and administration staff. Most of the students were from poor families who could not afford the tuition. Working with the leadership of Christian Fellowship Church in the United States, Pastor Ulysse established a scholarship fund to sponsor each child that needed assistance which included all expenses for tuition, books, and meals at the school. Since the administration of the program was handled by existing staff at the U.S. main church and the school in Haiti, there were no administrative costs, so 100% of donations went directly to the sponsorship of the students. Pastor Ulysse was the founder and first president of "One Hope For Haiti," which has now become a stand-alone charitable organization with separate leadership.
The work has now spread across the border to the Dominican Republic where there is currently one church with 150 members there, and 12 pastors, in addition to deacons.
In 2011, Pastor Ulysse became the Vice President of the International Board of Directors of Christian Fellowship Church Ministries International, and upon the retirement of the President in April of 2020, he was selected to become the President.
Pastor Ulysse brings with him a fresh and unique perspective to this leadership role. Over the past several years, during his tenure as Vice President of the Board, Pastor Ulysse has introduced in the headquarters church in the U.S. the same model of team leadership that has been so effective in Haiti. He has been responsible for raising up a new generation of leaders in Christian Fellowship over the past five years, ordaining five local pastors in the church's main congregation in Norfolk, Virginia, as well as a team of elders and deacons to oversee the church.
Pastor Ulysse shares the oversight of the international ministry with another pastor and is in the process of building an international leadership team made up of pastors from other congregations within Christian Fellowship Church, as well as fellowship leaders from around the world. As an effective communicator of God's word, Pastor Ulysse is known for the depth of his messages, his insight into the history and culture of biblical times, and his diligent study of the meaning and context of the language which helps people apply the timeless truths of scripture to their day-to-day lives.
Although the COVID-19 pandemic has made meeting in person difficult in many of our congregations, Pastor Ulysse has led the church through this period by embracing technology and using creative means to continue to spread the gospel.
Today, the messages are seen by thousands through live streaming on the Internet, and fellowships are actually growing in attendance by using means such as Zoom and Skype to connect with current members and reach out to new attendees throughout the world.
While many church organizations saw donations decline during the pandemic, through Pastor Ulysse's vision and effective leadership, Christian Fellowship Church Ministries International actually saw a rise in donations during the 2020 fiscal year.
