Faith in Action
Sep 16, 2018 • Pastor Scott Shepherd • James 1,
James could be considered wisdom literature. It is an immensely practical letter that deals with how we as Christians should behave in the world we live in. It shows a direct correlation with our faith and our behavior. Faith will cause us consider how the things we do and say reflect the God we say we serve.
Trials will reveal in us things we need to surrender to God. It may not feel good, it may not be what we like, but it is what we need. Hebrews tells us that the chastening of the Lord is a sign of our being sons and daughters of God. (Hebrews 12:5-17)
We are to count the trials as joy, because the testing purifies our faith. It causes us to be less in the flesh and more in the spirit and leads us to patience.
